I want to replace my existing phone jack with a new one with 3 jack openings. It will all be on the same phone line. It will just look much neater than using the plug in multiplex jack adapters. My questions is – my existing phone wiring has 4 color wires. The new 3 jack outlet has 6. I have asked the home center, the company that mfg this unit and a friend who is a contractor. The contractor says I only need the 4 wires to connect to this new jack outlet even though there are 6 wires all going to the 3 jack openings (orange, black, blue, white, yellow and green). My question has been – and I am asking here – must I have an electrician or someone from the phone co. come and run a new wire with the 6 color wires, or can I do as the contractor I spoke to and just connect the 4 wires to this? I don’t see how it will work on only 4 wires when there are 6. The package only shows 4 wires being connected (no instructions – only a drawing – BUT there is a chart on the pkg that lists all 6 color wires). I just want to clean up the way this jack looks as it is not near the baseboard – and is visible from my home office desk. Thank you.
Jivepack – all 6 wires go to all 3 jack openings. You can see that from the rear of this. On the front (under where the face plate snaps on) there are 3 of each color connected to 2 small screws but I understand I only have to connect one wire to one of each of the pr. of screws to make my connection. AT THE TOP of the package IT DOES SAY: “6 Conductor supports up to 3 seperate lines”. So maybe my contractor friend was correct in saying I only need to connect the 4 wires. The way it is set up now – I have to use 2 plug in adapters. There is a 3 jack opening plug in adapter – and a 2 jack opening adapter. The phone and answering machine HAVE TO be in the 2 opening one and that HAS to be plugged into the one opening in the 3 jack plug in adapter that says “L1+L2″ over it. I can eliminate the need for the 3rd jack opeining if I just stop being lazy and get a phone that has an answering machine built in (which my current phone does not – hence the need for the 3rd jack)

Do your parents say like “f ottomans!” or “those were the times!”

Describe the process of Ottoman reform in the nineteenth century. What were the motives of the Ottoman reformers? How would you evaluate the consequences of the Tanzimat reform? Were the reforms mostly “window dressing for the West?” Is there a difference between westernization and modernization?

I’m trying to answer this for a paper. Any help would be great!

We recently did an osmosis test at school and we recorded our results on a table. I have drawn up a graph as required but I am not sure what to do next/ analyse the data… could someone give me some brief steps on how to do an effective data analysis?

We have these big family gatherings on thanksgiving. Not surprisingly these occasions are little more than “cut each other down contests”. I have a lot of cousins who are always around talking about their latest acquisitions, whether it’s a new car, a new b/g friend, or a big raise. Now, I am just a PhD student, living on the margins of society, poring over some math no one cares about.

In previous years, whenever I felt like I was in a spot, I have been defensive; trying to say that I am a hard worker too even though I don’t make a sixth of what they do. But I inevitably get swamped by some comment on how I am just an irresponsible kid who wants to stay clear of the hard stuff in life. It is usually an unpleasant situation when I fight back by demanding to know how 99.9% of adults in the US who bring up kids, work a desk job and support a family could possibly be doing a more challenging job than the 0.1% who do advanced mathematics.

I don’t want this to happen again. I am graduating by March, so by next Thanksgiving, I will be a professor. That means, at the next thanksgiving, it should be easy for a professor to get back at a couple of motley office cubicle workers.

This Thanksgiving, I want to avoid a fight; what say I say something disarming like : “Yeah, I am just a student, without responsibilities and having loads of fun. I can’t even imagine how hard it is for you people being both important in your jobs and running your families”; thus establishing myself firmly as the underdog. Do you think it will hurt more when the underdog bites, eventually?
