Well, latter in the chapter, the hatter says a phun spelling the word ‘never’ as ‘nevar’ (which is raven backward). But this was lost in publishing so its basically just a riddle with no answer.
Riddles were all the rage with kids when the book was written, sort of like elephant jokes in the 1960s. It is a fairly simple riddle; I’m not sure where the idea that it had no answer was started.
How is a raven like a writing desk? They both have inky quills.
